Art&Newport and The Preservation Society of Newport County present a performance by Leila Josefowicz.

Leila Josefowicz’s passionate advocacy of contemporary music for the violin is reflected in her diverse programmes and enthusiasm to perform new works. In 2008, she was awarded a prestigious MacArthur Fellowship, joining prominent scientists, writers and musicians who have made unique contributions to contemporary life. Alongside pianist John Novacek, with whom Josefowicz has enjoyed a close collaboration since 1985, she has performed recitals at world-renowned venues such as New York’s Zankel Hall and Washington’s Kennedy Center, as well as Reykjavik, Leeds, Chicago, San Francisco, Santa Barbara and Halifax (Nova Scotia). In 2018, Josefowicz was presented with the Avery Fisher Prize, awarded in recognition of musicians who represent the highest level of excellence and whose vision and leadership have expanded the reach of classical music.

A message from Dodie Kazanjian, Founding Director of Art&Newport:

"I’d like to thank George Condo for creating this initiative to support musicians and other performing artists who have been unable to work for the past year because of the pandemic. His wish is to build financial support for everything from commissioning composers to musicians’ performances to choreographers and dancers who are in dire need. In addition to commissioning a new work by Matthias Pintscher for Leila Josefowicz’s performance, George has made a limited edition etching, whose sales will benefit ongoing programming at Art&Newport. The December 21 performance at The Breakers was made possible by the generous support of the George Condo initiative.
